Search for tags by tag attributes (tag advanced search)
Be able to search for tags by their tag attributes (point source, location 1, uom, etc.)

This is a must, agree! Why it wasn't incorporated already many years ago.... can't understand.
Voted up + Marked as critical

Having to use process book or the Pi excel sheet to search for tags - the tag search is the main draw back with Pi Vision - We don't use PI AF (and can't see how it would be useful to spend time to build it for our application) so Tag search is very important.

I would like to see a similar enhanced tag search in PI Vision. We are not heavily using PI AF and our system is typically utilized by tag names. It's a little difficult for users to locate the tags by description or other existing attributes.

This is a must. We cannot fully migrate to PI Vision from ProcessBook until this is available.
We will never have a full hierarchy built in AF.
Without advanced tag searching I need to look at the PIDs to build every trend. -

This is a must have in the fight to convince our users that Pi Vision is a viable Processbook replacement.

Well, @JamesNEast, looks like not 2021...maybe 2022 (Q1, he optimistically suggests). Little stunned that with this level of votes and comments there isn't a reply at least saying it's being researched.
As others have mentioned, it's true for us as well - this is a major complaint as we try to migrate from PB. We have another site we're trying to migrate from another vendor all together - yeah, this issue won't help that effort either.
Even having to use 'attribute:' is better than nothing (but what user is going to memorize all those - and they're different in SMT and Point Builder). But, ultimately, they'll (I, we, us) want a GUI.

Until we have all of our PI tags available in AF being able to search for PI tags more effectively will be a requirement. The lack of a more comprehensive search facility for PI tags is currently a show stopper with regard to getting our users to fully adopt PI Vision

I'm honestly amazed this is not already a feature.
We're rolling out PI Vision to our powerplant users and this was the number one comment/complaint. They don't have access to PI SMT, and some cases won't have an intimate knowledge of tag names, how are they supposed to find tags to build trends?
Unfortunately our tag names are not always intuitive, so being able to use a combination of units, description, tag name, data type, etc... in a search is incredibly important. The PI Processbook search allow for this and makes it easy. Even as an admin and power user, I would struggle with only being able to use tag name and descriptions in PI Vision to find tags.

After PI Vision training at one of our plants with 50 attendees, this was the largest concern and follow-up request from them towards adopting migration away from Processbook. Not sure we have much control on this without getting OSI help on this enhancement from the software development side.

Will this be part of the PI Vision 2021 release?

Our users have been asking for the ability to run advanced PI tag searches in PI Vision. For users that work on the source systems, they use the 'instrument tag' field to validate PI tags. This has been an issue as we migrate users from PI ProcessBook to PI Vision

I have a few large customers that are undergoing PB to Vision migrations and this is a problem for them.

We are currently converting ALL of our users to use PI Vision instead of PI ProcessBook and the users are complaining about not being able to search for tags by InstrumentTag (high importance) as well as other attributes. Please make this a high priority within OSIsoft!!!

Tag search for ad hoc trends is kind of important to the engineers at the plants... they do it all the time and Process Book is the tool of choice. If you take that away, please replace it with something that is at least as functional. Search in Vision is not only lacking, it abysmal compared to the search in all other Pi tools.

This is an absolute show stopper for migrating our staff away from ProcessBook and over to PI Vision. They are creating ad-hoc trends all the time and need an efficient way to find the right tags which can't be done without advanced search on description as well as other attributes like instrument tag.

We have a category of users that have not adopted PI AF (and likely will not), and historically we also have had poor naming conventions.
The way they search is with the tag description, along with filtering with the plantcode that is a part of the tag name.
In PI Vision, there does not seem to have a way to search on both tagname and descriptor, with separate clauses.

As we continue to push more users towards PI Vision one of the biggest complaints we get is not being able to search by tag mask and descriptor. More options for Tag searching and AF searching would be very nice to have.

I second this notion as my Users are complaining that they are unable to search Pi Tags using Point Attributes search feature in PI Vision.
However, in ProcessBook, users can search for a Specific PI Tag/ PI Point using the PI Tag Search Button by specifying the specific PI Point Attributes that they are looking for such as the "Instrument tag" (refer Fig. 1), however this feature is not available in PI Vision (refer Fig. 2). Users can also Add the specific PI Point Attribute in the Search Column for easy search, however this feature is also not available in PI Vision. How are the PI Vision users going to search for a PI Tag/ PI Point using a specific specific PI Point Attribute such a as the "Instrument tag" or other Point Attributes? When will this feature be added into PI Vision? -

An advanced search option for PI tags an AF attributes would really improve the user experience. One of key complaint/questions we get from our PI Vision users is how to search for tags with the tag descriptor. I hope this can be added in a future release as we continue to move away from Process Book.
