Create on the fly calculations
Be able to create "on the fly" calculations similar to PI ProcessBook datasets.
We are currently researching this item and evaluating it for a future release.
I would like to be able to perform PI Calculations in PI Vision
I hope the time beetwen "RESEARCHING / EVALUATING" and "STARTED / IN DEVELOPMENT" will be very short.
Yes, we would like this feature to be made available in PI Vision.

I can only agree with you all. Datasets is a real big issue. Being able to simply sum some PI-Points or compare to each other, without the need to run it as AF-Analysis is really important.
Besides that it would be really important to be able to look at different time ranges in different plots on one display. Thats a lot more comfortable in Processbook at this Time.

I want to explicitly agree on henderson´s comment.
This is also feedback I hear from my users.
PI Vision has some strengths but this feature keep people sticking with ProcessBook with a good reason.
If PI Vision has some possibilities for "on the fly" calculations, we would be one step closer to migrate from ProcessBook to Vision.
I agree, that this feature is really needed by a lot of users. But it is not only about recreating datasets in Vision but improving the usability of datasets in a trend. I heard a lot of complaints from PI users about how long it takes to build some standard calculations with datasets in comparisson to other trending tools. For some advanced calculations this is all fine, but a lot of users just want to quicktrend the hourly average or interpolated values in a specific interval. There are a lot of trending tools of other applications which allow a bunch of standard calculations with one or two mouse clicks.
PI Vision is intend to replace Process Book, but is still missing a powerful feature Process Book has: Datasets.
It is impossible to replace Process Book datasets by AF calculations. Calculations are often used for troubleshooting, and you cannot anticipate every single type of calculation you gonna need to use in the future.
Sometimes it is impossible to have to wait for your admins to create the needed calculation on AF, due to a need of fast decision making based on real time data.
Osisoft needs to implement something similar to Process Book Datasets on PI Vison ad-hoc screens to fill this gab and allow full transition from Process Book to PI Vision.
For the trend, add the ProcessBook Datasets concept or custom expressions i.e. Where some condition is true or average of the values. Conditional views in PI Vision displays. Like event frame (start-time and end-time) but on the fly (as needed).
Ad Hoc Calculations Simular to the Dataset in Process Book would be very useful.

Input coming from Enel - need described as: capability to perform simple operation on Tags that means + - : x; creation of simple alert with notification, overall emails or mobile text message
I agree. My users build their own Vision displays. Let's say my user wants to sum up pump flows to get a total pumpage. The users cannot do this on their own. It requires admins to build expressions in AF or Data Archive.
PI Vision should be able to do simple arithmetic calculations, such as adding or subtracting.
Simple calculations needs to be on PI Vision. Most calculations we do in PI AF but basic users who just want to create a simple display are now limited to the attributes provided. This makes it frustrating for users when just wanting to do a simple sum...
Users very need to use the simplest calculation (sum etc.) without the AF and generated attributes.
General users need the ability to create ad-hoc calcs without the need to access to AF to generate attributes.
Is there a way to do calculated values in PI Vision displays.

Having Ad Hoc Calculations in PI Vision (Simular to the Dataset in Process Book)
Add the ability to perform expressions directly in PI Vision. For example, easily trend the sum of two tags. This was a very useful feature with PHD / Uniformance Process Studio that I'm losing with the conversion to PI!!!

This is the first thing my users ask me about, and then, they are rather disappointed to learn that PI Vision has no such capabilities. It would certainly be very very very useful feature. Please start developing this into PI Vision!
Very very much looking forward to this function!
