  1. Display attribute and tag description in Asset pane

When holding the cursor over an attribute or a tag in the Asset pane, not only the AF hierarchy should be shown but also the description text as it is in PI Coresight 2014.

Data item descriptions are included in the tooltip of search results so that they are visible by hovering over a data item in the search pane. This functionality was added in PI Coresight 2016 R2.

  2. Event Frame Advanced Search

There is no ability to refine the event frames returned. Even worse there is no mechanism other than the name to identify the differences between event frames. We do have multiple different types of EF's on a single item of equipment; for example we might have an EF for downtime and another for "idle time" (equipment running but not doing anything useful).

There is no way currently to filter the EF results based on the EF Template or category. I would also include the template and category in the search results

A new search configuration dialog has been added to PI Coresight 2016 R2 that allows custom searching for events. Now users can search by event severity, custom time range, asset name, asset type, attribute value, and more. The search configuration is saved with the display so users can quickly find events of interest without the need to reconfigure.

Thank you for providing your feedback and helping us add the features you want to PI Coresight.

  3. Vision's search limitation on Asterisks and Spaces

Using multiple search phrases in Processbook or Datalink was simply separating items by an asterisk . . . "Phrase1Phrase2*"

Since Vision has Asterisks unable to match space characters the above search will return no results where there are any spaces between the phrases. The equivalent search phrase now must be "Phrase1 Phrase2".

This seems to be a step in the wrong direction on making searches more intuitive and easier, especially considering the YEARS of habit trained into people on proper search techniques within Processbook and Datalink. It also seems to be a very confusing state of…

In PI Vision 2020, a new search service was introduced that has a new experience. The default behavior searches for an exact match on text entered (accounting for spaces) at the beginning of search results, by adding an asterisk to the end of your search string. There is also a global setting on the PI Vision server that can be set that turns off all implicit asterisks.

  4. Search engine

The search engine in PI Coresight is (to put it politely) very, very poor. put simply, the word search just does not work.

  5. Search for Text at end of Data Item

Currently when users type a search string, PI Coresight automatically appends a * wildcard character. So if a user searches for "*state", it is the same as searching for "State*".

Users would like the ability to search for text at the end of the data item name, so that a search for "*State" would return "OutletState", but would not return "FanState1".

  6. Search by attribute or tag description

When searching for attribute, it would be nice to search descriptions of attributes as well.

The descriptions of AF attributes and PI Tags are searched when executing a search in PI Vision. To view the description of a search result, hover over the item and the description will be show in the tooltip. Showing the description of search item results in tooltips was added in the 2016 R2 version.

  7. Support loading Coresight search results in smaller sets (paging)

Provide ability to return smaller sets of search results, which are a manageable size, as well as the ability to return the next set of results when needed by the user.

Customer Issue: Customers may issue searches in PI Coresight, or browse into an AF element, which returns large numbers of results (on the magnitude of tens or hundreds of thousands). This can result in the search taking so long to return that it times out. In addition, if the search does return, it can be very difficult to navigate and explore through a large number of search results, using…

  8. Hide system and intermediate attributes in Search Results

Provide the ability, in PI Coresight, to hide particular classifications of AF attributes that are not desired to be returned in search results. These attributes could either be system attributes (as designated by AF) which do not contain meaningful data, or AF attributes that have not been configured.

Note: This was previously Enhancement 98395.

You can apply an EF time range to your PI Vision display that includes trends of EF attributes and any other data items (such as tags).

If this does not meet your original request, please provide additional details into your use case so we can update the status.
