  1. PI Vision Installation Kits scripts

It would be desirable to have PI Vision SQL scripts as a separate download or Installation Kit.

Case use: Run scripts only, on a separate SQL node by the DBA.

  2. Standalone Vision Display Utility install

When networking issues prevent a connection to both the source and destination SQL servers, it would be nice to be able to move the VDU locally so that we can mitigate the connection issue. As far as I know, there is no way to migrate just the VDU. Installing the VDU requires installing the entirety of PI Vision as well. A standalone VDU install kit would be helpful.

  3. Install Wizard: Allow for Opting Out of SQL Script Execution

Allow for the ability to opt out of Go.bat execution again SQL during the installation or upgrade of PI Vision like the AF Services kit does.

Currently, the kit tries to execute those scripts automatically and errors out with "The PI Vision database upgrade failed" if for any reason the scripts cannot run.

  4. Built-in SQL database backup job

As a PI Administrator, it would be useful for the PI Vision SQL database installation to also create a PI Vision SQL database backup job like the AF SQL Scripts already have. That way I do not have to configure the PI Vision SQL backup job manually on each installation.

  5. PI Vision support for Azure AD Domain Services managed domain

PI Vision currently has not been tested on an Azure Active Directory Domain Services managed domain environment. Attempts to configure PI Vision 2017 in such an environment has failed.

Please let future version of PI Vision be tested in such an environment and ensure compatibility.

  6. PI Vision - Software as a Service (SaaS)

Be able to consume PI Vision as a Software as a Service (SaaS) offering where installation and upgrades are managed by OSIsoft as part of the offering.

PI Vision would be able to connect to data that lives in on premises PI / AF Systems.

  7. Allow installer to (optionally) bypass Certificate checks

In nearly all installations in the last three years we have restrictions on the servers where we need to install the SSL certificates, that make it impossible to verify the validity (e.g. no access to revocation servers).
The certificate is accepted by clients as those have different authorisations.

I would like to optionally bypass the certificate checks in the PI Web API Configuration utility to allow using certificates that cannot be validated. This will save a lot of time to bypass the utility and manually remove and bind a certificate.

This functionality is currently in development for the PI Vision 2020 release.

On a clean install, the setup kit will create a self-signed certificate, and apply it to the target IIS web site where PI Vision is being installed. On upgrade, where the previous version already had a certificate set for the PI Vision site, that certificate is used for the new version’s PI Vision web site.

  8. Changing the IIS website for PI Vision without reinstalling

I have a case with a customer who would like to change the IIS website for PI Vision without having to reinstall the PI Vision program

  9. Coresight SQL database collation handling

Coresight SQL database explicitly specifies SQLLatin1GeneralCP1CI_AS collation for some of the string columns. The system collation should be used instead.

  10. Use the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable

The PI Vision install kit currently includes the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015, 2017, and 2019. There is a version available that combines these versions (https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads). Please include this version with the PI Vision install kit instead. This should make the PI Vision install kit a bit smaller and shrink the list of included programs.

Of course, if the dependence on the 2015 and/or the 2017 version is eliminated, then it would be better to not implement this suggestion.

  11. PI Vision install kit should prompt to set app pools users

The PI Vision install kit should allow the user running the installation to set the users that the application pools (PIVisionAdminAppPool, PIVisionServiceAppPool, PIVisionUtilityAppPool) run as.

Particularly when upgrading to PI Vision 2019, a new app pool is created but by default it will run as Network Service, which may not be the desired account or the same account that the other app pools are running as.

  12. Automatically enable all necessary Roles and Features

The PI Vision installation kit should enable all necessary roles and features to streamline the installation process. Currently, the "Web Server" role must be manually installed prior to running the PI Vision installation kit.

  13. Support Installation on Windows Nano Server

Support installation on Windows Nano Server.  Nano Server is the latest OS that is optimized around private clouds and data centers.

It has a much smaller footprint from Windows Server Core and is "headless" which means that there is no GUI or local login capability.
