  1. Provide support for Element Attribute with Value Retrieval Method by time Not Supported when requesting sampled data with an interval

When retrieving AF attributes with a by Time Range setting of Not supported, the integrator will not return the data for the intervals as defined by the Query.

The ability to calculate a total for an AF attribute over an event frame has been added to Event Views in the 2018 R2 release. While it doesn’t address the exact behavior mentioned in this idea of supporting value retrieval method of “Not Supported”, it addresses a major use case for why this behavior was requested.

  2. Add automatic "Update Data" configuration option

Add the option to automatically update data that were previously published by a continuous view when data have changed since the last publish time. For example, a continuous view runs once every 24 hours to gather interpolated hourly data from devices. These devices typically report back every 24 hours, but sometimes there are connectivity issues that cause data to come in late. Currently the Integrator will publish the previous value for each hour until a current value comes in and will not go back to recalculate the interpolated values that were already published. There is a workaround to manually select…

This request has been addressed in the 2018 release. PI Data Archive 2017 R2 or later required. See release notes for more details.

  3. Allow asset views to run now and on a schedule

I need to create asset views that perform daily aggregation at midnight. Currently once I create an asset view I must wait until after the following midnight to see the output. It would be very useful to have the option to publish once and thereafter on a schedule so there is data to work from immediately.
Alternatively if it was possible to upgrade an existing single published asset view to running on a schedule this would solve the problem.

Since the 2018 release, it is possible to select Run Once to work with the data now. If it’s acceptable, a user has the ability to modify the view to Run on a Schedule and schedule the first run time in the future (midnight tonight for every month etc.) Therefore, we consider the idea of “upgrade an existing single published asset view to running on a schedule” to be solved and completed. Please let me know if you have another idea or use case related to this idea that is not addressed by the 2018 release! Thank you!

  4. Expose Integrator's "Health" via performance counters

Not just the BA integrator, but all integrators should expose performance counters for health & performance monitoring?
Including a true heartbeat counter than we can reliably watch to determine the successful end to end flow of data through the integrator?

The 2018 release includes a new feature called Statistics which documents each time a view was published, how many rows of data were read and written, and how many errors if any during each publishing event.

This feature technically tracks the run history of all published views. Under the tab Statistics for each view, the history lists all runs with information on date and time of each run, total duration of run, rows of data written, rows filtered out by filters and cleansing, and error counts (which can then reviewed in the logs). It also includes time duration of each step: reading from PI, filtering and calculating, and writing to .

For more details, see Release Notes and User Guide for PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018.

  5. Support Silent (Unattended) Installation and configuration to ease cloud deployment

Please provide a silent installation capability for PI Integrators. A preferred implementation would be a command line approach (as opposed to a silent ini). This allows for the install to be execute via a command prompt or via PowerShell where configuration settings are passed as command line arguments as is done currently with the integrated PI Server install kit. An ability to export the command syntax from the PI Integrator install kit would be an added bonus. (Example of the specific implementation can be found on page 294 of the PI Server 2018 Installation and Upgrade Guide.)

  6. Preserve view model when PI AF Server is changed

As a PII4BA user I need to create same views pointing to different PI AF Servers, when I change the AF Server, the view model is lost. It should check if templates and attributes exists on this AF Server, and if it is consistent, preserve the view model.

This capability is available through the Import/Export feature under Administration > Views. You can export the view and import it and change the AF server/database during the import stage and UI. This capability has been released since PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018.

  7. Allow users to modify existing views

Currently, it is not possible to modify an existing view in the PI Integrator. End users would like to be able to modify an existing view and reuse the same table name.

The end user should have the option to choose whether or not the view should be purged and republished, or to delete and backfill only a certain amount. For example, if a new column is added, and historical data does not exist, it would be good to be able to keep all previous data instead of republishing again.

This feature has been completed in the 2018 release. See release notes for additional details.

  8. Add support for Kerberized Hadoop

We would like to use the Integrator to publish to a  Kerberized Hadoop cluster (Hadoop that uses Kerberos tickets). Currently this is not supported by the Integrator (Enhancement 148795.), and if you try to set up a Hadoop target that is a Kerberized Hadoop cluster, you will see the error:
"HadoopHDFSWriter::GetHomeDirectoryAsync: Request failed. Authentication required Result: ...401 Authentication required..."

Current workaround: publish to a SQL Server target instead and then use a Hadoop tool such as Sqoop to bulk copy data from the SQL Server to Hadoop.

This request has been addressed and completed in the 2018 release. See release notes for additional details.

  9. Add the ability to export/Import views

As a Systems Integrator I need to be able to develop BI views in a test environment then after customer acceptance, there needs to be a mechanism to move that view to production environments.

  10. Allow the choice of 24 hour and 1 day sampling intervals to handle DST transition periods

Make the PI Integrator handle DST transitions better by allowing users to choose between a sampling interval of 1 day (can be 23 or 25 hours on DST days) or 24 hours. Currently, the PI Integrator will publish 24 hours when a sample frequency of 1 day is selected, causing timestamps to shift during DST transition days.

This is now completed for PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018 R2 SP1 release. The PI Integrator Framework will be able to gracefully handle sampling intervals as well as publishing schedules during DST transitions.

  11. Remove default columns from text file target

In the output file for the text file target there are some default columns that get added to the file "ID, PIIntTSTicks, and PIINTShapeID ". It will be good if those columns are not automatically added to the output file.

  12. Add support for Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA)

Our organization uses gMSAs to run other PI services, so I would like to be able to run the PI Integrator services under a gMSA account.

  13. Allow assets to be filtered based on template inheritance

We currently have Elements built on inherited templates. For example, we have ElementTemplate, which has inherited child templates,  ChildTemplateA and ChildTemplateB.

In PI System Explorer, we can do an Element Search and apply a template filter for ElementTemplate. The results will include any elements based on ElementTemplate, as well as any Elements based on both inherited child templates, ChildTemplateA and ChildTemplateB.

However, when building a shape in the integrator, there is currently no corresponding way to filter based on the parent template, ElementTemplate.

In order to provide a consistent user experience, the PI Integrator for Business Analytics should allow the…

This feature has been completed since PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018. It shows up as a checkbox for “Search Derived Templates” when you click into a filter. A related feature supporting Event Frame templates in Event Views was added in PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018 R2.

  14. Allow default schema to be configurable

Our Database Administrator would like the Integrator to publish using a different schema than dbo for SQL targets, so I would like this to be configurable in the Integrator. Currently it is not possible to change it from the default dbo.

  15. 'Download Logs' should download all logs within the specified time range

Currently it only downloads logs that are loaded in the display pane. In order to get it to download everything, I have to scroll down until everything is loaded.

This behavior was a bug that was fixed in the latest release, PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018 R2. Please upgrade to the latest version if you are still experiencing this issue.

  16. Support SAP HANA multitenant database

We would like the Integrator to support connecting to SAP HANA multitenant databases. The SAP ODBC writer used for PI Integrator for SAP HANA assumes that <port> takes the form 3<instance number>15 as stated in the HANA v2.0 SPS00 documentation. Since this is not true for multitenant databases, PI Integrator for SAP HANA does not currently support multitenant databases.

  17. Add monthly publish option

The Integrator can currently publish on a schedule of minutes, hours, days, and weeks, but there is no "months" option. If we have meter data, for example, that are entered once a month on the 5th, we would like the Integrator to be able to publish on the 8th every month to capture these data. Setting the publishing interval to 31 days works for several months but eventually drifts to later and later in the month, at which point the view needs to be recreated.

This is now supported in PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018.

You can type in an integer value for the “day of the month” in the “First Run” field and schedule the view to recur every 1 month.

  18. Allow configurable publish target timeout for SQL target

If the Integrator encounters a timeout writing data to a publish target, it would be nice to be able to configure this timeout in the Integrator's configuration file (%PIHOME64%\Integrators\BA\CAST.UI.WindowsService.exe.config). It is currently not possible for the user to specify this timeout for writing to a publish target.

This is now completed for PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018 R2 SP1 release. There is a new field in the SQL target configuration for Publishing Timeout.

  19. Allow users to add GUID of the Event Frame to a view

The abillity to add an Event frame's GUID is necessary to allow advanced solutions like genealogy to report on and link to a specific event frame.

  20. Option to schedule a view to run once

To minimize the load off of piarchss and pisnapss, it would be helpful to be able to schedule views to run once at a specific time. For example, a view to collect data from (January 2018 to January 2019) for multiple years so that it doesn't interfere with other views running.
