  1. Drop support for TLS 1.0 & TLS 1.1 for the 1st-generation PI Connectors

For the administration pages of the 1st-generation PI Connectors, please drop support for TLS 1.0 & TLS 1.1. These have been known to be insecure protocols for a while now, are not supported by modern browsers, and have been superseded by TLS 1.2 & TLS 1.3.

"Compatibility with older browsers" is not a good reason to keep them around, since even Internet Explorer supports TLS 1.2 & TLS 1.3. Anyone using an older browser should upgrade for their own good. Since PI Connectors are a newer technology, I'm surprised that OSIsoft even bothered adding support for TLS 1.0 & TLS…

  2. Minify the PI Data Collection Manager's (PI DCM's) HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code

The code for the PI Data Collection Manager's web pages is currently not minified. Please minify it so that the pages load faster, especially on mobile devices, and so that the network traffic is reduced.

To be clear, to avoid the extra processing time of a separate minification step, the code should be minified to begin with. That is, the PI Data Collection Manager should be released with pre-minified code.

  3. Add support for TLS 1.3 to the 1st-generation PI Connectors

The highest version of TLS that the 1st-generation PI Connectors currently support is 1.2. Please add support for TLS 1.3 to make the administration pages of the 1st-generation PI Connectors load faster and more securely.

  5. Minify the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code of the 1st-generation PI Connectors

The HTML code of the administration pages of these PI Connectors is over 3000 lines long and is very unoptimized. It also seems like most of the CSS and JavaScript code is inline and so is not taking full advantage of HTTP/2's multiplexing.

Please put the CSS and JavaScript code in separate files where it makes sense and minify all of the administration pages' code to make the pages load faster and to reduce network traffic. To avoid the extra processing time of minifying the code, the generated code should be minified to begin with.

  6. Add 2 new PI Connector categories on UserVoice: "PI Data Collection Manager" & "PI Connector Relay"

The number of suggestions for the PI Data Collection Manager and the PI Connector Relay is building up, and they are currently all going under the "General" category. Please add new categories for these programs and reclassify existing suggestions accordingly.

  7. Add support for HTTP/2 to the PI Data Collection Manager (PI DCM)

Currently, the PI Data Collection Manager's web GUI supports only HTTP/1.1. Please add support for HTTP/2 so that it will load faster.

  8. Enable Relay/DCM to allow control over the data streams and destination PI Systems

Currently the Relay will send all data streams to all routed destination. This does not allow customers to have control over what data streams go to a specific destination. The only workaround is to have independent Connector/Relay pairs with specific configurations, which does not scale up if there are several Connectors since only one specific Connector/Relay can exist on a single node.

For example: Let's say there are two Connectors (A and B), routed to a Relay with two destinations (1 and 2). The current implementation of the Relay will send both Connector A and B data to both Destinations…

  9. Support for Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge

Currently OSI has not tested web-based PI tools with Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge.
It will be helpful to know if there are plans for it to become officially supported by a certain time, since eventually Chromium-based Edge will get pushed to all of end users

  10. Connectors should support a Send Rate parameter

Connectors need adapt to many different types of networks, in both configuration and quality (latency, etc.) of the data transfer. One of the features that interfaces had, but connectors still lack, is the ability to batch the values sent to PI and spread out when they are sent. These are the Send Rate settings for the buffer subsystem, they are requested for connectors as well.

  11. Do not silently overwrite PIPointPrefix.config.json when a PI Connector is upgraded

Currently, if you install a new version of a PI Connector, the PIPointPrefix.config.json file is silently overwritten and reverted back to the default. For users that do not use the default prefix, this means that data gets recorded in the wrong tags and not the intended tags, which, in turn, can mean that critical notifications are never sent out.

In general, files that the user is intended to edit should not be silently overwritten, and files that the user is not intended to edit are safe to be silently overwritten.

Please consider either making it clear which configuration files will…

  12. PI Connectors buffering (Tau) - provide configuration options

As a PI Administrator, I would like to be able to DISABLE or configure Tau buffering SO THAT after a network outage the flood of data doesnt overload my network switch and PI DA. My current use case doesn't require the data that may be lost during a network outage.

I would like to be able to throttle the number of events that are sent ot the PI DA via Tau buffering so that the PI DA can ingest the data without building event queues.

Specific connector: PI Connector for EtherNet IP which is used for high speed data collection.

  13. PI Connector for MQTT - support more generic JSON formats

While the existing support for Sparkplug MQTT format is helpful, this connector would be more useful if it also supported a more generic JSON format.

  14. Exclude Bad values from data collection in PI Connectors

PI connectors such as OPC UA, Wonderware and Cygnet send BAD values from the data source. We would like the option to filter these values out at the connector level such that they do not make the PI Data Archive.

  15. Have option to enable exception on Connectors.

There are use cases where data is sent over networks with latency (satellite link, for example) so being able to filter out noise at the connector is important.  This is also important when a connector sends data to a local PI Server in the field (low latency), but then PItoPI is used to send snapshot updates to a central PI Server over a high latency link.

  16. Native support for PI Data Archive collective

"For Interfaces if we add a new member to the PI Collective, all other interfaces will automatically detect it, and start sending data.
With PI Connector Relay 1.x, someone will have to remember to manually configure.

  17. Connector for Oasis Site

Customer would like to be able to pull data from Oasis site (http://oasis.caiso.com). This would allow the customer to have the most current price information coming from CAISO

  18. Merge Two Tags or Copy Tag Data to a New Point

Sometimes, when dealing with APS, a new TAG is generated for an existing point. Data stops going to the old point. It would be nice if there was an easy way, within the gui (not manually dumping and importing) that we could take the values from one tag, and place it into the new tag.

There are other times when we may want to copy all historical values from a tag, and place it into a new tag.

  20. PI Connector Relay - Add ability to retrieve cached OMF meta data like Types and Containers

As an OMF application developer it will be very useful to have the ability to retrieve and have a look at the already created and cached OMF meta data like Types and Containers.
