View more detailed buffer queue statistics for PI Connector for OPC UA
I would like to get a more detailed view of the buffer queue for the PI Connector for OPC UA. In particular, I would like to be able to see the number of PI Events in the queue (not just the number of Tau Messages) and the amount of space filled in the buffer queue file.
Based on a recent conversation with OSIsoft support as we worked through an issue caused by going over the events/second threshold, this would be helpful for them to have as well. This could enable us to be proactive instead of reactive and avoid business disruptions.
It would be added benefit to not only be able to see these metrics in the UI but also capture them through PerfMon or OMF. We have struggled to get any meaningful information for the connectors through PerfMon or UNINT Health Tags like we can with the interfaces. Makes it extremely difficult to monitor health of PI Connectors vs. PI Interfaces.
Also useful would be to see the number of events sent to the Relay / PI DA. Similar to what is already available in the PI Buffer Subsystem configurator.
This can help to understand if there is really an issue in the PI system, or if it is simply a matter of network performance between the connector and the relay.
The Tau Framework buffering used by connectors is very "black box". There is limited information available to monitor its status and make sure you have adequate disk space available to be able to buffer during an extended network outage. This has been standard functionality of the PI Buffer Subsystem (pibufss) for years. And we rely on this ability to qualify new installations to say that they (1) buffer correctly and (2) are sized properly to meet requirements. It seems odd to release a new "improved" interface architecture without at least the same capabilities of the existing interface architecture.
