  4. Make the PI Data Collection Manager default to a more user friendly configuration

When the PI Data Collection Manager is installed, intuitive defaults are chosen, and intuitive redirects are not set up. The PI Data Collection Manager installation should:

-By default, check for port 443 and 80 availability on the machine. If they are available, set the collection manager up on port 443, and set up a site on port 80 to do a HTTP -> HTTPS redirect.
-Set up a redirect, redirecting the root / site to /UI.

These two changes would greatly improve remote management, and management of the server itself. Rather than doing the intuitive thing and visiting the root…

  5. Need EtherNet/IP connector to be able to read and write.

Need EtherNet/IP connector to be able to read and write.
Currently EtherNet/IP connector is read only.

  6. Naming of the Data Access Filter File when exporting the available Type Definitions

Currently, the filename will always be AvailableTypeDefinitions.csv. The filename should contain at a minimum the data source name.

    For example: <DataSource><DateTime>AvailableTypeDefinitions.csv

  7. Make a PI Signal Generator Connector (Ramp Soak + Random)

Please consider combining the PI Ramp Soak Simulator Interface and the PI Random Simulator Interface into a single PI Connector. The upgrade of these PI Interfaces is important because they come bundled with the PI Data Archive—nearly every PI system uses them. It is also the perfect opportunity to show off PI Connectors to students and new customers without burdening them with the step of connecting to a data source, since Ramp Soak and Random generate their own data.

  8. Make Data Persistence Settings Configurable

Currently, .zip folders containing processed files can reach up to 256MB in size. Browsing the contents these folders can be difficult due to the number of files within.

Being able to specify either a file count of folder size parameter would help simplify this process by breaking the zipped folders into more digestible, user configurable sizes.

  9. Use the most recently used Locale as the default

The default Locale is currently "English - United States" for all new data sources. Please consider using "English - United States" as the default Locale only for the 1st data source, and using the most recently used Locale as the default for all subsequent data sources. This saves the user from repetitive Locale configuration.

  11. Add DisplayName as SourceId Pattern

Sometimes it is useful to use the OPC UA DisplayName for naming PI Points.

Please consider adding DisplayName to the option for SourceId Pattern, in addition to the existing (identifier / path)

  12. Try catch management

Actually, if an error occurs during data processing, datasource stops immediately execution and skips the remaining rows.
Try catch or similar could increase stability of data acquisition.

  13. Allow dynamic parameters in URL

Often third party web API needs input parameters so static URL is not enough.
Sometimes parameters are simple, e.g. current data, or can be derived from PI tags; these could be set with placeholder in configuration.

  14. Configure target PI/AF/DB at datasource level

Actually the UFL Connector sends data to all of the listed PI Data Archives and AF Servers in the server list configured in administration page, so it's not possible to send different data to different PI DA or AF databases with a single UFL Connector.
It would be better to bring these configuration at datasource level.

  15. Support for Alarms and Conditions

We need to be able to handle Alarms and Conditions into the PI system. We are moving away from OPC classic into OPC UA.

  16. Revise the PI Connector For OPC UA on the Data Collection List page

Currently, only the Generation 1 version of the PI Connector For OPC UA appears in the Data Collection List (https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Products/PI-Interfaces-and-PI-Connectors), and it is the only PI Connector whose platform is "Windows" instead of "X64".

Please add the Generation 2 version of the PI Connector For OPC UA to the list. Please also change the platform of the PI Connector For OPC UA to "X64" unless there is some special reason for having it as "Windows".

  17. Read the historical data of a variable from OPCUA server when PI connector (version 1.3) is running

    • In my OPC UA server, each node is historized for 7days of time in order to avoid the data loss in case of internet issue/communication issue in field devices.

    • When the PI connector is stopped and restarted for some time interval, data missed during that period has been recovered successfully.

    • While PI connector is running, I want to read and store this historical data of each node in PI server. It would be great if any options available in PI connector (version 1.3) to view and store this historical data?. Thank you

  18. Allow rename of tags for IEC-60870-104 connector

The connector should allow sending the data to a custom tag name. The combination of ASDU and IOA are not useful to end users without the signal list.

There should also be an option to automatically combine the quality flags with the value e.g. if the quality is not valid, then write the quality code to the value

  19. Drop support for TLS 1.0 & TLS 1.1 for the 1st-generation PI Connectors

For the administration pages of the 1st-generation PI Connectors, please drop support for TLS 1.0 & TLS 1.1. These have been known to be insecure protocols for a while now, are not supported by modern browsers, and have been superseded by TLS 1.2 & TLS 1.3.

"Compatibility with older browsers" is not a good reason to keep them around, since even Internet Explorer supports TLS 1.2 & TLS 1.3. Anyone using an older browser should upgrade for their own good. Since PI Connectors are a newer technology, I'm surprised that OSIsoft even bothered adding support for TLS 1.0 & TLS…

  20. Minify the PI Data Collection Manager's (PI DCM's) HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code

The code for the PI Data Collection Manager's web pages is currently not minified. Please minify it so that the pages load faster, especially on mobile devices, and so that the network traffic is reduced.

To be clear, to avoid the extra processing time of a separate minification step, the code should be minified to begin with. That is, the PI Data Collection Manager should be released with pre-minified code.
