  1. Monitoring Connector health

Support for health tags (similar to UniInt health tags), Windows performance counters, or any other way to bring Connector status and health information into PI tags to put them side-by-side with Interface health monitoring.

  2. PI Connector for RDBMS

The PI Interface for RDBMS is one of the most used PI Interfaces. Unfortunately, the fact that it is a PI Interface makes it unnecessarily difficult to use, and turning it into a PI Connector can help alleviate this. No more Location codes, squishy PI ICU, distributor tags, SQL file in the InstrumentTag, strange notations in the ExDesc, etc.

Thank you for your input. We are continuing to support PI Connector for OPC UA with stability and security releases. However, for feature enhancements, we are focusing our efforts on developing PI Adapter for OPC UA.

While our current version of PI Adapter for OPC UA does not support history recovery, we are evaluating this functionality for a future release. If you have additional enhancement requests, please head to the PI Adapters forum and share with us there.

  4. Output tags on connectors

Sometimes we need to send data back to our sources. Connectors should support output tags

OSIsoft does not plan to incorporate bi-directional data flow within the Connector Framework. The PI System plays a vital role in our customers’ process and business workflows, and uni-directional data flow from the data source to the PI System helps maintain the integrity and security of our customers’ operations.

  5. PI System Connector with mode to synch AF Analysis and Notifications Templates

As an equipment specialist working centrally, I wish to deploy my AF Element Templates including Analysis and Notifications Templates to my remote sites so I have them managed from a central location. This also insures that remote sites are using the same calculations and KPIs.

We have decided to decline the implementation of AF Analysis and Notification Template synchronization specifically within the PI System Connector product, as we do not feel it is the right fit for the PI System Connector product direction.

While we will not be pursuing this functionality within the PI System Connector, we do recognize the importance of the use case. Please continue to follow and provide feedback for this functionality under our PI Server forum using the following link:

  6. Replicate AF Analyses with PI System Connector

I would like to have the option to replicate AF Analyses using PI System Connector with the option to mark the desired analyses for replication.

  7. Feature to turn off auto creation of PI Tags in PI Connector for UFL

Ability to turn off auto creation of PI tags - When data is sent via REST to a PI Connector for UFL service ,currently it looks for a PI Tag in the PI Server and if the PI Tag does not exist it creates a new PI Tag. It would be good if we could turn off the feature if not required as in our case we have a naming convention for PI Tags and we create the tag names in advance so would not like to allow for the auto creation of PI Tags.

  8. Apply the Connector Relay to IEC 60870-5-104 Connector

Thank you for your input. While we are not planning on implementing this functionality in the PI Connector for UFL, we are testing PI Adapters against common proxy types to ensure that the Adapter will support them. We are starting to develop PI Adapter for Structured Data Files which may meet your needs.

While our current PI Adapters do not support writing to AF, we will consider including that functionality at a later time. If you have additional enhancement requests, please head to the PI Adapters forum and share with us there.

  11. PI Connector for IEC 60870-5-104 bi-directional between SCADA and PI

    RWE Power AG

“But one really important feature we need, is the ability to write back from PI into the SCADA system
Until now, we couldn’t find anything about this (important) functionality.
So our question is if we can use this connector bi-directional?
And if not, is this already in the roadmap for this connector?”

  12. Make the UFL Connector logic development/testing/debugging process less tedious

Deploying a UFL Connector solution requires a LOT of edits of the INI file as part of the development/testing/debugging process. After each INI file change and file save, the required procedure is as follows:
    1. Click on the Data Source List link.
    2. Click on ‘See Configuration’.
    3. Click on the ‘Change’ button.
    4. Click on the ‘Browse…’ button.
    5. Double-click on the INI file.
    6. Scroll the page down until the ‘Save’ button is visible (I’m using a 1920 x 1080 monitor).
    7. Press the ‘Save’ button.
    8. Click on the ‘Overview’ link.
    9. Press the ‘Start connector’ button.

  14. Connector (UFL) can read AF data structure

Right now it is a limitation because of the current functionality / design.

In the future it would be nice if:
    - the connector can read the existing AF structure
    - update the existing AF structure
    - create elements / EF / attributes under existing elements

there was a case, while the customer wanted to create EF StoreEventFrame() under existing element, but it did not work.

had to explain the limitation: we are not able to do it unless the element was not created by the UFL.

also Event Frames StoreElement() needs to be used in conjunction with StoreEventFrame() and…

This functionality is currently not supported by the connector’s querying logic and design.

  15. Rollback Option for System Connector

We had an issue with the System Connector and had to reinstall every part of it, but then all tags in the destination system have been created again. The old tags have not been updated anymore. We think about an option to reverse every change the connector did on the destination system (delete AF Elements, Attributes, Event Frames, PI Tags) that have been created by the connector.

We thought of a workflow like this:

Delete the routing of the "not-correct-working" Connector via DCM
Delete the Connector via DCM UI (and de-registering it from DCM and Relay in that step)
    Deleting…

Automated rollback functionality is not planned for PI System Connector. We encourage you to consult with OSIsoft Technical Support if you encounter issues with your PI System Connector installation.

  16. Add instrumentation to the PI System Connector

Need to add instrumentation to PI System Connector wheras exposing perfmon counters (so PI perfmon can store accordingly in PI tags) on AVG data flow in events/sec for a 120 seconds time period, status of the connector, etc

  18. Failover for PI Connector Relay

Although, the PI Connector Relay going down / not being available does not cause data loss since the connector data is buffered, if the source connector supports Failover, the relay becomes the only single point of failure in the data flow.

Having an HA option for the PI Relay would allow for a more robust architecture.

  19. PI Connector for Modbus TCP - include option to configure response data byte size by register type.

Certain RTUs limit the number of Boolean/Discrete values they return independently of the number of floats they return. The PI Connector for Modbus has a configuration option for “Maximum Response Data Bytes” but it applies to all register types. Enhance the maximum response data byte size configuration to provide an option to configure the max byte size by register type.

We have decided not to proceed with the release of PI Connector for Modbus TCP

For Modbus connectivity we recommend the use of PI Interface for Modbus Ethernet PLC, PI Interface for Modbus Serial PLC, or PI Adapter for Modbus TCP

  20. Wonderware Connector - History Recovery

Wonderware Connector has limited historical data recovery capabilities. It can cover a few days back in time but has not been designed to perform both realtime values and configurable history recovery period as both processes are synchronous.
An old date is configurable but it would delay real time values capture which is counterproductive with the nature of the connector.
It is not a reproach; that's just what it is.
That's we figured out when implementig and assessing connector with an excellent support from OSISOFT engineers.

Our connector implementation project came with the need of nearly a year of historical data…

While there are quite a few different methods of recovering historical data from a Wonderware Historian, the preferred methods are listed in the following KB article:
    https://customers.osisoft.com/s/knowledgearticle?knowledgeArticleUrl=What-is-the-best-way-to-move-historical-Wonderware-Data-into-PI-Server

As the options listed above meet the use case defined within this enhancement, we will not be implementing this specific enhancement. However, we thank you for your feedback, and please continue sharing your thoughts on how we can better serve you!
