  1. Expose methods to retrieve messages from the PI Message log to PI AF SDK

Add methods to retrieve messages from the local and remote PI Message Logs where remote can refer a PI Data Archive node or any remote PINS.

Because the EventLog Class in .NET Framework provides access to local and remote Event Logs, offering the AF (Server) Event Log through PI AF SDK is not necesarry.

We have reviewed this idea, and it’s not something we plan to implement at this time. Even though we are declining this idea for now, it is still open to comments. We do want to hear your opinion. Thank you for the feedback, and please, keep sharing!

  2. Expose PI Network Manager Statistics via AF SDK

As of now, we can get PINetMgr statistics via PowerShell command Get-PIConnectionStatistics. # of users familiar with AF SDK are more than with PowerShell.
It will be nice feature addition in AF SDK, and usability will also increased.

While we appreciate the interest the community has for this suggestion, we have decided to decline this item in favor of other high priority work. Thank you for your feedback, and please continue sharing suggestions for how we can improve the PI Developer Technologies for you!

  3. Backfill/Recalculate over future data

The ability to backfill an analysis using an end time in the future. This would read data from future inputs and write the results as future values.

  4. AF SDK and Web API on Linux OS'es

With Microsoft supporting .NET Core on Linux operating systems such as RHEL, SLES Ubuntu, CentOS, and Debian.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/about
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/linux-prerequisites?tabs=netcore2x

They are even supporting SQL Server on Linux OS'es.

I don't know the dependencies of the AF SDK nor the Web API, but if they can use .NET Core; it would be nice to have the AF SDK and Web API available for Linux based OS'es.

  5. Offer AF SDK as a Nuget package

To help with quicker deployment, having AF SDK as a nuget package would speed up development and lower barrier to developing against a PI System.

  6. Tag Creation

As a developer of custom applications that use the PI  AF SDK, I'd like to be able to easily determine if an attribute based of an attribute template is configured for tag creation. Currently the AF Attribute Template class does not have this property. The current work around is to look at the configuration string which is less efficient.

  7. AF SDK Async Data Methods for multiple AFAttributes

Expose interfaces for asynchronous data method calls (ex. InterpolatedValues, PlotValues, RecordedValues, Summaries) that:
        1. Take an asynchronous enumerable of AFAttributes as input
        2. Output an asynchronous enumerable of results
        3. Throttle the calls made to PI Data Archive so that it does not overwhelm it

The use case is to be able to make end-to-end asynchronous data method calls on a set of AFAttributes.

  8. af sdk PIPointQuery should allow multiple use of filter name per AND condition, so ranges can be searched

Currently the PIPointQuery cannot contain a filter condition with same filter name twice per AND condition of the query string.

    PointId:>5 AND PointId:<10.

    This would cause an error.

Therefore filtering for a certain range is annoying as both result lists then have to be compared for common elements, workaround for the AND in above condition.

    Enhancement:

Introduce a "BETWEEN" operator for the filter condition.

Allow multiple use of filter names in the same AND condition.

Apologies as I meant to set this item to declined with my previous update.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We have no plans to work on this feature in the near future, so I am setting the status to declined. I will update the status if we eventually schedule this work.

  9. AF SDK Calls using the AFValues.GetValues should include an index of result events, this is to allow direct location of replacement events

The PIPoint.ReplaceValues method requires a replacement of every event in the timerange, however it also may reorder or miss events with the same time stamp. The issue is that if the client wants to replace only a certain event, but must find that event - the replacement is for all the events at that timestamp and the method doesn't seem to allow for precise replacement of a value.
The use case is programmatic correction of operator manual entry error, where multiple events have the same timestamp.

  10. Search on multiple Categories in AFSearch

Several customers have asked for ability to search on multiple categories.  I understand from developers that a generic OR in AFSearch can be quite expensive, but allowing for search filter Category to support Equal or IN should not be expensive.

  11. Return Elements with Bad Values with AFSearch

As a programmer, I would like to search for and return elements with attributes that contain bad values  using the AFElementSearch Class in the AF SDK.

  12. support server side aggregation in AFSDK

I would like to aggregate multiple tag values in a server side operation using naturally scheduled or sampled intervals in some form similar or extending FilteredSummaries.

Most common case is finding the maximum aggregate of two or more tags.

It's not practical to rely on Analysis for adhoc use cases.

  13. Allow decimal representations of days, months, and years in time strings

PI Time offsets only allow for integer numbers of days, months, and years. For example, -1d is allowed, but -1.5d is not. Hours, minutes, and seconds allow decimals. There are a number of client tool situations where the customer would like to offset by a decimal number of days; in these cases, they will need to convert to hours before proceeding.

We cannot use fractions in many cases due to variability. For example, DST, leap year, # of days in a month, etc.

    From our documentation for AFTimeSpan.Add:
“Intervals year, month, and day do not allow fractions because they are variable length. For example, adding a fraction of a month would require choosing between a month containing 28, 29, 30, or 31 days.”

  14. Expose Business Integrator statistics via AF SDK

It will be nice feature addition in AF SDK, usability and publications management will also increased.

  15. Have Status of an analysis

I would like to have status of analysis (Enabled, Disabled, Running, Error or Warning) via PI AF SDK with the attribute 'Status' or the method 'GetStatus'.
In the library, we already have in AFStatus all the Status declared but not used.

Thanks to that it will be possible to see all analysis in error and try to resolve analysis in error with AF SDK.
Morever, We won't do backfilling on analysis in error and create other error, it will be clean to do backfilling on all analysis Enabled if we know which analysis are in error.

    Sorry for my english…

  17. Recalculate an Event Frame after a manual entry through PI Vision.

Recalculate an Event Frame after a manual entry through PI Vision.
So after inserting data in a manual manner, I want to be able to automatically recalculate the EF. In new AF version this works for analysis but not for EF. There is a way to do program it by using PI AF SDK? I would be happy if this can be done already from PI Vision with PIweb API.

  18. CreatePIPoints, FindPIPointsByPath, and other related functions should have the same return type.

Currently, a method like PIServer.CreatePIPoints returns AFListResults<String, PIPoint>. Very similarly, PIPoint.FindPIPointsByPath will return AFKeyedResults<String, PIPoint>. The functionality of each result is essentially the same; they even have, for most practical purposes, the same associated properties and methods and thus; they should not be different object types.

Sharing an object type across all of these PIPoint-related functionalities would allow developers to more easily share methods for these related functions (Such as error handling methods).

  19. Implement GetValue().ValueAs<Insert Type Here> for all possible AF Value Types.

Currently, the AFSKD GetValue() method supports GetValue().ValueAsInt32, .ValueAsDouble, and .ValueAsSingle. However, there are other possible AF Value Types, such as "Boolean". The AFSDK should expand the GetValue().ValueAs functionality to include all possible AF Value Types.
