  1. AutoFit the columns in PI Builder's "About"

In the PI Builder tab in Excel, if you click on "About", a window similar to the one in "Before AutoFit.png" will appear. There is not enough room for the full Name to show, and the Assembly Version has much more space than it needs. If we AutoFit the Name column, everything can be shown in full (After AutoFit.png). Please make this the default way that the About window appears.

  2. When building AF output tags with PI Builder - can't create as Base instead of Classic

No option in PI Builder to declare point type of Base vs Classic.

  3. Improve formatting for changedate and creationdate properties in PI Builder Excel Add-in

When querying PI Points within PI Builder we see the changedate and creationdate properties show up in the format "yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss" which is not the default format that Excel wants for filtering and sorting columns by date/time. However, we do see the proper format for these two properties shown after clicking any cell in the same sheet as the PI Point query and hitting "Retrieve". This yields the format "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" which is easier to sort and filter through.

  4. Have greater consistency between PI Builder and PI DataLink

PI Builder and PI DataLink both have Settings, About, Help, and Feedback buttons. Please consider some of the following actions to create a more consistent user experience across both add-ins:
    • Use the same set of icons.
    • Use a similar layout for the About window.
    • Use similar wording for the tooltips.
    • Use end punctuation on all tooltips. This is an issue in PI Builder but not PI DataLink.
    • Move the buttons to the far left. This will ensure that the buttons are visually in the same spot across both add-ins. Currently, both sets of buttons are…

  5. Change "PI AF Builder" to "PI Builder" in the tooltip of the Feedback button

Once upon a time, the add-in was called "PI AF Builder", but not anymore. Please edit the tooltip to reflect the current name of the add-in.

  6. Give a more specific error message when publishing a span of 0

Currently, if you try to create/edit a PI Point to have a span of 0, an error message similar to the one below appears:
Error occurred on line #, column #, while processing PI Data Archive 'PIDataArchive':
    [-38] Illegal Compression Deviation Specification
    Parameter name: compdev

This occurs even if compdev is not one of the published columns, which can confuse the user. Please give a more specific error message when the user tries to publish a span of 0.

  7. Minimize the recalculation of volatile cells

Currently, PI Builder data is imported row by row. Each imported row causes all volatile cells in all open workbooks and any cells downstream of them in the dependency tree to recalculate. PI Builder will not import a new row until this calculation is complete. If there are too many slow-calculating downstream cells, the entire import can be slowed to a crawl.

Please consider importing data in a way that does not trigger the recalculation of volatile cells as often. One option is to switch to manual calculation before the import and restore the previous calculation mode after the import.…

  8. Throw an error if both excdev and excdevpercent or both compdev and compdevpercent are present when publishing

Currently, if you publish a PI Point configuration that contains both excdev and excdevpercent or both compdev and compdevpercent, the "percent" versions silently take priority. This means that if a user imports excdev and excdevpercent, edits only excdev, and clicks on Publish, PI Builder will give no indication that the excdev edit was not made.

Please do not make PI Builder silently make decisions for the user. Please throw an error to let the user know that an edit to both excdev and excdevpercent or both compdev and compdevpercent at the same time does not make sense, and let the…

  10. Include PI Server as a column option in PI Builder

A PI Server column would be a useful check to confirm which PI Server results are being published to, especially when a PI Admin has a drop down list of many PI Servers/Collectives.

  11. Automatically apply Excel data validation to PI Builder columns

Currently, if there is a problem in the user's PI Builder sheet, the user will not know until they click on "Publish" and see the error messages.

To help avoid this, consider having PI Builder apply Excel's data validation feature to columns that do not have to connect to the PI Data Archive or the PI Asset Framework to be validated. For example, set up data validation to ensure that certain columns contain only numerical values, integers, dates, or numbers in a certain range. For columns with a fixed number of choices (e.g. the point type attribute of PI Points,…

  12. Fetch multiple PI Points from one list

    1) Select some rows from a column with a list of point name on Excel.
    2) In PI Builder, Click on a new button (Find PI Points From List...) and then it will fetch all parameters of matching points in the server vs the list.

  13. Add support for context menus for cells in PI Builder

As a user, I want to have context menus for Excel cells when using PI Builder, so that I can select from different options using context menus to speed up configuration of AF objects.
