  1. Tag Search GUI consistency among client tools

Consistency among tag search GUIs within client products (PI Builder, DataLink, SMT, ProcessBook, etc.)  The search in PI Builder has limited functionality and would be nice to have the same search GUI as used in SMT and ProcessBook.

  2. PI Auditviewer Usability Enhancements

From a pharma/biotech user perspective, I am finding that the PI Auditviewer application is difficult to use and conduct an investigation with over an extended time period.  I believe the application needs an overhaul to allow for, at minimum, the following enhancements:
Mass import and scanning of audit source files.  A user should not have to individually browse to, add, and scan each individual log file.  Current functionality does not easily support an investigation that must take place over a broad time period.  Better yet, the application should automatically scan the log file directory, and all audit log files should…

  4. Extend PI audit trail to include changes made to snapshot using SMT

Using the SMT tool with the PI archive editor you can enter current values using * as time. This enters directly into the snapshot but is not recorded in the audit trail. All changes made should be recorded

  5. Include a "Disable" option for Table Connections

Linked Tables can cause bad behaviors (freezes; attributes waiting for values) in PI System Explorer when the password supplied is no longer valid. The solution is to update the password, or delete the Table Connection if the new password isn't available.

It would be handy to have a "Disable" option when you right click on a table connection (in the Library Module) to disable it in order to avoid such behaviors until a new password is obtained.

  6. Buffering Manager should have tuning parameter for Points with Post Errors

Right now there is a PerfMon counter for Buffer Health.  It's either 0, 1, or 2.  That's not helpful because it doesn't tell you what is wrong.  There are other PerfMon counters for Remaining Queue capacity and Points with Post Errors.  The Buffer Manager allows you to change the threshold on when Remaining Queue capacity flags the Buffer Health as Warning and Error.  We set that tuning parameter to a crazy high value because we just have an Event Frame based on the Remaining Queue Capacity PerfMon counter tell us when the capacity is low.  Otherwise we have redundant Even…

    Hi @taterhead247
thank you for your request for additional counters to be added to Buffering Manager. Could you please describe what it is exactly you are hoping to achieve with new performance counters?
Specifically – what do you want to configure? how do you want point error reporting to behave? any other helpful information around your use case that will better help us understand your problem, and the solution you are looking for.

Additionally, this request is something that is really more for the Buffering team than the health team, so I am copying their PM and will figure out how to move this request to that queue.

thanks again for your comments, we really appreciate your feedback – it helps us to improve the product for you and all of our customers.

    Warm regards,
    Janelle Minich

  7. Add filtering and rolling log system to AFGetTrace

When troubleshooting intermittent issues, using AFGetTrace may be problematic as the trace can consume quite a bit of disk space, and setting a maximum file size will cause the trace to stop once the file is full. Without knowledge of when the issue will reoccur, we are stuck either risking filling up the disk and having a huge trace file to analyze, or set a max file size and possibly miss the issue.

  8. Add additional highlight for Knowledge Base Articles that has a confidence of "Not Validated"

add additional highlight on the external articles that are "Not Validated". e.g. Red highlight on the confidence section or highlight on the title name. This would allow the reader to pay more attention that the proposed in solution section of the article is not 100% tested or verified.

  9. Certified Power App Connectors to read and write PI Server data

Microsoft Power Apps enable low-code development of connectors to integrate data sources and applications. Rather than customers developing and maintaining their own connectors, it is requested that OSIsoft develop, maintain, and update a connector to read and write PI Server data.

  10. Managed PI Feedback

There many posts with similar content. to get a better overview (for people who want to vote as well for osisoft). the feedback webpage should be managed and similar postings should be merged/grouped. one example is manual data entry for PI vision, but i think there more.

  11. Add the Unicode support for RDBMS interface

When connecting Redis database via DSN we get error. As interface is ASCII and Redis is Unicode. Please add the unicode support for RDBMS interface.

  12. Interface for Modbus output to 4byte (32bit) registers

There are Modus supporting devices that feature 32bit single registers (e.g ROC800-Series). PI Interface for Modbus should be updated to have support to output to these 4byte (32bit) registers.
Currently PI Interface for Modbus only has support for output to single 2bype registers or output to multiple 2byte registers to store 32bit data. There is a need to have the interface support output to single 32bit registers.
    Example device manual: https://www.emerson.com/documents/automation/roclink-800-configuration-software-user-manual-for-roc800-series-en-132340.pdf

  13. Revise Perfmon counter for PIBufss - Point Count

We are trying to use this perfmon counter as a diagnostic aid to catch issues with a third party interface, but it could be used with PI interfaces. We are checking to see if the point configuration for their interface matches across the four possible servers the interface could be sending from.
I opened a case (00825139) and was given this response by the engineer:

These two numbers are not expected to be the same. PIbufss point count is simply the number of points that it knows about - someone has sent data to these points, maybe far in the…

  14. Feedback for the "Hardware and PI System Sizing Recommendations Spreadsheet"

Please delete the blank hidden sheet. It's a useless waste of space.

On the PI Data Archive sheet, please use named ranges to make your formulas more readable. This will also make it easier for you to catch any mistakes and quickly check if formulas are still valid for newer versions of the PI Data Archive.

  15. Document publically changes from one version to the next

This applies also to pharma industry, but customer wants exact documentation of what has changed between releases in the underlaying infrastructure. As example after an upgrade, a particular COM technology was no longer used. This could have resulted in catastrophic results if by chance was not discovered in time.
For pharma: facilitates validation of the system if only the delta needs to be validated.

  16. PI Tag Notes

A way to add notes to a PI tag at a certain time, with an indicator that will appear any time that tag is trended during that time period.

For example when a worn pump is replaced we see a step change in motor amperage. It would be nice if a note could be added with an indicator at that time any time that tag is trended to explain why there was a step change.

  17. compatibility

the compatibility of products (e.g. Data Archive with PI AF) is not straightforward. e.g. regarding to documentation (release notes, Instal-guides) it's possible to combine Dataarchive 2012 with AF 2017-R2. and indeed it's possible to use it in combination, but the installation is requiring the following steps:

    • Install AF Server 2017 R2

    • Install AF Client 2017 R2 on Dataarchive Server

    • Uninstall PI Network Subsystem on Dataarchive Server

    • Install PI Server 2012 (Dataarchive)

    • Install AF Client 2017 R2 on Dataarchive Server

    • Perform MDB to AF migration

thats not straight forward and should be mentioned in the documentation (list the restrictions / requirements).

This is a case of forward/backwards compatibility. It’s typically not possible to account for forward compatibility but as a general rule we provide backwards compatibility when possible. In this scenario, since AF 2017 R2 is newer than Data Archive 2012, you should first install Data Archive 2012 first, then install AF 2017 R2 and the backwards compatibility built into the upgrade process would take care of the PI Network Subsystem dependency.
