  1. Improve visibility for dark theme

PI DataLink (specifically, the right sidebar that pops up when entering a current or archive value) is very hard to read in Dark Theme (office 365 only). If this could be resolved, that'd be great

  2. Better behavior on Brazilian DST start (no midnight)

Whenever Daylight Saving Time starts on Brazil the issue below is prone to happen:

Whenever Start/End time has a date corresponding to DST start, which will either cause date misinterpretation (using formats XX-XX-XX or XX/XX/XX) or throw an error (given DateTime represents an invalid time).

Customers want to avoid having to install a localhost to client machines and having to make changes to every spreadsheet.

  3. Compressed Data and Tables

Compressed Data should be able to (or have the option to) query multiple tags and return the results as a single table/array of information, instead of independent columns of data. Returning independent columns of data results in rows being mismatched across multiple columns because of missing events. A table should be able to be easily created that keeps the data from multiple tags contextualized with each other based on the time stamps.

  4. PI DataLink for Microsoft Office 365 online

Support PI DataLink on Microsoft Office 365's web portal, Office Online (accessible via a browser). Note that PI DataLink already supports desktop installations of Office 365.

  5. Provide DataLink functionality in a Google Sheets add-on

A significant number of companies are moving from the Microsoft Office suite to "G Suite" (Google). This move takes customers from MS Excel to Google Sheets, and they would like to retain PI DataLink as a functional add-on.

  6. Enable DataLink to display the timestamps of calculated attributes in EF

Enable DataLink (Explore Events) to display the timestamps of calculated attributes (e.g. maximum, minimum) of an Event Frame.
Currently only the values are displayed. In PI System Explorer the requested timestamp is available.

  7. Support named ranges to avoid issue KB01369

Excel places named ranges in formulas when a cell has a named range (instead of cell references). Excel formulas become more readable this way.
Datalink should support defined named ranges too.
Editing a Datalink array formula directly in Excel and replacing cell references with named ranges in works already.
But Datalink pop-up dialogs can only use cell references.
With named range support for parameters of Datalink formulas no workbook and worksheet named are added to the formula anymore avoiding the issue of KB01369.

  8. Use DisplayDigits attribute in formatting of cells

Use DisplayDigits attribute in formatting of cells. Note that hitting F9 will not reformat the cells if a change to the displaydigits is made. That includes if you change the tagname to a tag which has a different display digits attribute.

  9. Continue to support/modify the PI Trend Add-In for Excel DataLink that was in 2014 on into 2016 and beyond.

This add-in allowed for a trend to be created within an Excel Spreadsheet without first dumping the data to the sheet.  It was an easy trend to make and it updated with current live data when requested (F9).

There is a work around to get this legacy add-in function to work in 2016, but no one likes a custom that only the user can see and update.

The PI Trend functionality is still available in all versions of PI DataLink. However, starting in 2013 when PI DataLink was rewritten to use the AF SDK instead of the PI SDK, the PI Trend feature is in the Legacy add-in rather than the main add-in. Now, the Legacy add-in is no longer enabled by default in order to softly discourage its use, but it can be re-enabled using instructions in the setup.ini.

While the Legacy add-in remains available, I want to mention why we have not updated the popular PI Trend functionality in several years. The PI Trend function is an ActiveX control. ActiveX is an older technology that is quite useful for embedding a program in another program (another example of its usage in the PI System is PI ActiveView). However, due to the same design that allows great portability, ActiveX is also inherently insecure and carries…

  10. Manual Data Entry Function May Be Useful with Macros Becoming Antiquated

Manual entry data function may be useful with macros becoming antiquated. Support for making annotations may be useful enhancement as well.

  11. Option to disable automatic connections to AF Servers

I would like the ability to disable automatic connections to specific AF Servers. Currently client applications (DataLink) are implicitly connecting to all AF Servers in the AF "KST". This results in very slow startup times for Excel. For customers with many AF Servers or off-shore servers connected via satellite, this could save a lot of time.

  13. Time Zone Specification to Represent Data in

Letting the customer specify the time zone in which to represent the data would be a nice enhancement.

  14. Option to disable DataLink automatic grouping

As a creator of DataLink spreadsheets, I would like to have the option to disable DataLink automatic grouping so that I can apply an input to one function (ex. filter expression, conversion factor, etc.) without it being applied to the entire group. Currently DataLink automatically groups similar functions when using the task pane, even if they are created by copy paste or by dragging the fill handle.

  15. Setting to allow the omission of error strings in Calculated or Filtered Results

Give the customers either an option or an application setting that allow them to omit error strings from function output. This would allow them to more easily chart results. Some examples of current strings that cause charting problems include, the "[-11101] All data events are filtered in summary calculation" message in PIAdvCalcFilDat/PIAdvCalcExpFilDat and the "Calc Failed" message from PIExpDat.

  16. Provide easier workflow to retrieve the recorded values for EF attribute

As a DataLink user, I would like to see all the values of the event frame attributes during the start and end time using the Explore Events function so that I don't need to ask for the compressed values during that time range for each of the attributes manually.

  19. Explorer Events list should update automatically

In PI DataLink, using the Explore Events function, I would have expected the list of Event Frames displayed to refresh with newly created event frames when my end time is current time '*'. I would also expect that the list of Events is up to date when I open Excel and PI DataLink.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your feedback.
When you turn on Update in PI DataLink, new event frames will be automatically populated in the spreadsheet.

    Thanks again for your support.
