PI DataLink for Microsoft Office 365 online
Support PI DataLink on Microsoft Office 365's web portal, Office Online (accessible via a browser). Note that PI DataLink already supports desktop installations of Office 365.

With the license changes occurring with Microsoft, replicating the uses of datalink in PI Vision and PI Data Logger is time consuming and inefficient (to have to use two applications)

This would be really nice to have an online version for office 365. The company is moving towards that now with Microsoft licensing changes.

I have PI DataLink version 5.30 installed and it works with office 365 because it was already on my machine back when I had Office 2016 installed. My colleagues that are new to PI are installing version PI DataLink 5.30 without success with Office 365. Is V5.30 compatible with Office 365 desktop version? If not, what version is?

This would really help drive self-service usage of PI Data. Most applications are now fully web based in our business. We noticed a huge increase in use in PI Vision compared to PI Processbook, and feel this would be a similar upgrade compared to using VPNs, installing PI Datalink desktop etc etc

Online offerings of MS Office are growing in popularity as organizations look for ways to manage costs, including our org. Providing PI Datalink for the online version of Excel would be a step in the right direction.

i understand the difficulty of building a datalink add-in from scratch for Office Online, but considering the direction of online/cloud style computing and organization's push toward Office online and this being a 4yr old 'idea' and the 3rd highest vote in the PI Datalink section . . . the lack of any update or movement is incredibly worrying.

Our organization is moving to M365 with the intent that approximately 30% of the users will only have access to the web version of Excel. With no working DataLink add-in for the web version of Excel, we are looking at thousands of users that will no longer have access to PI data.

We would definitely use MS O365 if available, but we are rewriting our existing enterprise reports in web format because Datalink requires a client install.

For us - this is a vital progression for Datalink, it is much effort to maintain the datalink client on users desktops and laptops, and with network restrictions increasing it is much easier to manage a web based application.

We are using Google Suite. We thus prefer GSuite. However, an online Microsoft Office could be a B plan for part for our users.
Like many of your customers, Microsoft Excel thick clients is going to die since we are moving to more modern technologies using light clients (tablette, light notebook, ...).

We are using PI System on Azure cloud and eagerly want to use PI DataLink on O365 online Excel.
It allows us to get rid of RDS to use PI DataLink.
Already PI ProcessBook has gone and PI Vision is in our hands.
Why not for PI DataLink? -

Converting DL to an Office Add-in rather than a VSTO add-in would be a great addition.

Is it possible to make PI Datalink tab available on MS Excel Online ? This will help to get rid of installation of PI DL in all users laptop.

We are Office 365, and datalink works fine.

This really needs to happen, I am facing an open revolt (against PI) if PI Datalink goes away. We tried to move to Click 2 Run Office 365 but PI Datalink did not really work so we reverted back to an MSI installation of MS Office for those who need and use PI Datalink. Which is like 40% of all users.

Hi Kenneth,
I understand this request to refer specifically to Office Online. On Office(365) for Windows, PI DataLink works fine, as you mentioned. But making DL work in Office Online would require a new major version, as DL would need to be rewritten as an Office Add-in rather than a VSTO add-in. This would also make DL available for other platforms, such as iOS or Mac.See this link for more details on Office Add-ins:
