Data views now supported including units of measure (UOMs) in your data sets! You can expose the UOM of a stream property or metadata field in two different ways:

    - Inside a column header by using the field label token {Uom} in your field label, useful if all of the data in the column is reported in the same UOM
    - In a separate column next to the corresponding data field, by editing the field and checking the “Include UOM as column” box, useful if the data in that column may have varying UOMs

If you have any feedback on these new features, please let us know here on the Feedback Forum!

  2. Support Assets in OCS Data Views

OCS Data Views now support the ability to query assets in addition to streams.

When creating a query in your Data View, you can choose Asset as your query type. Please refer to the OCS Documentation for information on Asset Search syntax for querying assets by Asset Name, Id, Type, Metadata and Stream References.

  3. Asset Metadata Searching

Ability to search for Assets by their metadata (key/value pairs). For example, search for "Philadelphia Pumps"

  7. Include Calculated Data in OCS Data Views

As a data scientist, I often want to include calculated features in addition to the stream property data. Examples include min, max, average, etc. calculated at the same frequency as the interpolated stream property values.

Data views now allows you to add OCS summaries into your dataset.

Summaries will let you easily enhance your data sets beyond just field values – there are 12 summary types ready to choose from including min, max, mean, count, standard deviation, and more! See the full list in our docs here: https://ocs-docs.osisoft.com/Content_Portal/Documentation/SequentialDataStore/Reading_Data_API.html#get-summaries

To add a summary to your data view, click the “+Add” button, and then use the form filters to find the field and summary types that you want to include. Select one or multiple to add them into your data view as new columns.

  8. Support Assets in OCS Trend

Support the concept of Assets within the OCS Trend. This includes searching for Assets and trending their attributes/properties.

  9. PI to OCS browser dependency in PI to OCS Agent install

There seems to be a dependency on IE, when installing the PI to OCS agent. This wasn't there in earlier versions. I kept getting Flash error during DUO authentication. I had FF and Chrome installed, and Flash was disabled. I ended up having to install IE, then disable Flash in IE, before I could get past the DUO error

PI to OCS now uses the System Browser during installation. The install kit will now use the default system browser instead of the older embedded browser for user authentication to avoid known embedded browser issues.

This functionality was released in version 1.4.84.0 on August 12, 2020. Please log into OCS and download and install this latest version of PI to OCS to enable these features.

The OSIsoft Cloud Services Power BI Connector is released and available for download!

With the OCS Power BI Connector, you can import OCS Data Views in Power BI Desktop and publish your data sets to the Power BI Service through an On-Premises Data Gateway. No developer skills are required to configure the OCS Power BI Connector. Once the data is imported, users can leverage their Power BI knowledge to analyze the data.

    - Import Data Views into Microsoft Power BI
    - Choose from Interpolated or Stored data retrieval modes
    - Configure dynamic time ranges
    - Supported in Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service (through an On-Premises Data Gateway)

You can download the OSIsoft Cloud Services Power BI Connector install kit from the OSIsoft Customer Portal. Navigate to your OCS Virtual Site under the Products tab and search for OSIsoft Cloud Services Power BI Connector.

  12. Remote Operations Monitoring (SaaS offering)

As a customer that has assets in locations that have few personnel that are capable of maintaining software on site, but need to create displays, reports, and troubleshoot operational issues using data from several different small automation systems. I need a low to zero footprint offering that is always up-to-date offered on a subscription basis so that I can enable visualization and analytical capabilities on my remote sites.

With the release of Assets in OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS), users now have ways to easily create assets at scale with asset types and asset rules, monitor and see the current state of their assets with asset explorer and asset status, investigate problems and troubleshoot their assets with asset support and asset swapping in trending, and share both fleet views of their assets and trends with URL parameter support in both the asset explorer and trending. Asset information can also be queried through the OCS REST API (still in preview), making it available to a variety of applications and uses.

Additionally, OCS data views also supports assets, making it easy to shape asset data into preconfigured tabular datasets that can be queried through the OCS REST API. This provides a familiar workflow for data scientists to access operational data and apply it to machine learning models and…

With the release of two new features in OSIsoft Cloud Services, data views and metadata rules, users now have powerful and flexible tools available to apply automated context to their data streams, and to shape those streams into preconfigured tabular datasets that can be queried through the OCS REST API. This provides a familiar workflow for data scientists to access operational data and apply it to machine learning models and other advanced analytics.

OSIsoft will continue to enhance these capabilities and others across our technology stack to support users’ data science initiatives. Provide feedback on use cases and stay informed of the next set of features in development through Uservoice updates.

  14. Asset & Measurement Context

Be able to add / capture context for assets / equipment so that those users that are removed from the process can understand the data.

  15. Capture data from remote customer sites that don’t have a PI System

As a company that provides services for remote assets at our customers sites, we need to collect data from our customer sites without having to deploy a full PI System SO THAT we can start providing our service weeks to months faster and save on deployment and infrastructure costs.

Ideally, we could deploy some PI Connectors to remote sites and store the data in a Cloud Data Store.

Edge Data Store (EDS) was designed to meet IoT/edge deployments where a PI System is not a good fit due to environment, location, operating system, network and/or management concerns. EDS provides standard data collection via Modbus TCP and OPC UA, custom data collection via an OSIsoft Message Format (OMF) REST endpoint, persistent data storage, an API for local data access and custom application development, an API for configuration and management at scale, and data transfer to PI Servers and OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS) using OMF. EDS has a small installed footprint and runs on lightweight Linux or Windows based devices and is a great fit for data collection and local data access for remote assets, especially when network bandwidth is constrained or network availability is not guaranteed. Link to the EDS user guide:

In addition to EDS, OSIsoft has released a…

  17. Deployment of OCS in Europe

We need to ensure that when our company's data is stored in the cloud, it is stored within Europe SO THAT we can comply with local regulations and stay in compliance.

We need to make sure the servers that our data resides on is located within the European Union.

OSIsoft Cloud Services has expanded to support data residency in EMEA. In addition to the previously supported West US region, you are now able to store data in the West Europe region. You can choose to utilize one or multiple regions within your OCS account.

Data ingress via OSIsoft Message Format and PI to OCS Connections also supports sending data to either region in OCS.

  18. Enable Partners to Build / Develop Connectors that write to Cloud Services

As an OSIsoft Partner and Systems Integrator, I want to have a way to build connectors (interfaces) that can write data to Cloud Services for customers that have custom equipment SO THAT we can have more opportunities in the market.

    Leverage OSIsoft Message Format (OMF).

OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS) supports claims and Identity Providers. Our first release was mid-2019. More specifically, we are using the Open ID Connect implementation of OAuth 2.0.

We support the following Identity Providers in OCS: Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Accounts, and Google.

  20. Programmatic access to large tabular data sets

Ability to define and query a shaped and formatted tabular time-series data set as a data view for use in data science and advanced analytics applications. .

OCS stream data is interpolated at a given interval. Any time period can be queried and retrieved, and the data can be re-shaped to fit requirements of downstream applications.
