  1. OCS DataView "Save as" function

If there is a dataview existing, which might need to be altered or edited using the UI, but the original dataview should remain (i.e., because of dependency to existing applications accessing the dataview), it should be able to save the data view under a new Id/Name in order to preserve the original one. Specifically if the initial creation of the dataview was very time consuming that would be rather helpful.

We have added a “duplicate” function in the OCS Portal so that you can easily copy an existing data view, providing a new Id/Name on creation. We hope this helps reduce efforts in building off of other data views, and can enable templatizing of common configurations.

To duplicate a data view, navigate to the Data Views list page, click on the data view you wish to duplicate, and access the “Duplicate” option in the context menu on the right (in the data view overview pane).

  2. Add tooltip and doc. link for Shape selector in Data View config UI

When configuring a data view, there is switch for Shape that allows a choice of Standard or Narrow (see screenshot), but there is no information on what this selection means. Users can see the affect by choosing one or the other and clicking on the Apply button, but it would be useful to have easy access to further information via a tooltip and/or link to documentation.

Data Views now includes a new data endpoint that will allow you to query your data view to retrieve the stored values for the underlying data, instead of having the data interpolated to evenly spaced intervals.

When making a data views query, you can now use either API endpoint for any data view:

    …\DataViews\[ID]\Data\Interpolated
    …\DataViews\[ID]\Data\Stored

To help you visualize your data set before accessing it programmatically, you can simply toggle between the Interpolated or Stored preview in the data views configuration UI.

Both the Stored and Interpolated Data Retrieval modes are also available in the OSIsoft Cloud Services Power BI Connector.

  5. Visualize Strings in the Trend

I would like to be able to visualize string data (streams / asset measurements) in the Trend.

When trending asset measurements, I also want to see the attributes associated with the same asset so that I can understand the context.

  6. PI to OCS - More configuration options when selecting PI tags to transfer

Allow users more flexibility and options when finding and selecting PI tags to transfer to OCS. Current implementation only allows a single PI tag name search criteria, and limits one transfer between each PI Data Archive and OCS namespace.

PI to OCS now supports a more flexible user experience when selecting PI Points for transfer. You can now search for PI Points by specifying several additional attributes such as Descriptor, Engineering Units, Point Type, Extended Descriptor, and Location Codes 1-5. Additionally, you can now build a list of PI Points by doing multiple searches, to accommodate PI Points that may not conform to a naming convention.

This functionality was released in version 1.4.84.0 on August 12, 2020. Please log into OCS and download and install this latest version of PI to OCS to enable these features.

  7. Let me copy the URL for the "get data" Data Views API call directly from the Data Views configuration page

As a Data Scientist, I want there to be an "easy copy" button so that I can quickly and easily copy the API URL that can be used to query for the Data View's interpolated data, with the parameters set in the configuration page.

This will facilitate ease-of-use for citizen Data Scientsts who will be leveraging this API call in other tools, as well as save time for both expert and citizen Data Scientists, by generating the API URL with required fields such as AccountID, Namespace, DataViewID, startIndex, endIndex, interval, etc.

There are now two ways to navigate from a data view, directly to the API Console, automatically populating the Data/Interpolated endpoint and relevant parameters.

    1) From the data view list page, click on a data view, and then open the context menu on the right side (in the data view overview pane). You will now see a “View in API Console” button
    2) When editing a data view, the “View in API Console” button is present below the table

In both cases, this function will open a new browser tab to load the OCS Portal’s API Console and pre-populate the Data/Interpolated route for that particular data view, including inserting query parameters such as startIndex, endIndex, and interval.

We’d love to hear any feedback!

  8. Trend OCS Stream Properties

Ability to search for OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS) Streams by name and trend Stream Properties.

Ability to perform basic trend interactions such as: setting the time range, configure y-axis mode, highlight traces, hide/show traces, multiple cursors, horizontal panning & zooming.

  9. Y-Axis Modes Aren't Self-Explanatory

There are three views of the traces. The “stacked” view where each trace is separately displayed is clear. But it isn’t obvious to me what the difference is between the other two views.

OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS) visual trending supports URL parameters for data items, time range, and Y-axis mode. You can copy your trend session URL and sent to your colleagues, so it’s quick and easy to get on the same page about what’s happening.

This functionality can also be used to bookmark trends you frequently use within your web browser.

Please check it out and let us know what you think.

Data views now supported including units of measure (UOMs) in your data sets! You can expose the UOM of a stream property or metadata field in two different ways:

    - Inside a column header by using the field label token {Uom} in your field label, useful if all of the data in the column is reported in the same UOM
    - In a separate column next to the corresponding data field, by editing the field and checking the “Include UOM as column” box, useful if the data in that column may have varying UOMs

If you have any feedback on these new features, please let us know here on the Feedback Forum!

OCS Data Views now support the ability to query assets in addition to streams.

When creating a query in your Data View, you can choose Asset as your query type. Please refer to the OCS Documentation for information on Asset Search syntax for querying assets by Asset Name, Id, Type, Metadata and Stream References.

  14. Multiple Trend Cursor Summary Calcs

Ability to see summary calculations / statistics (min/max/avg/duration) between successive trend cursor marker lines SO THAT a user can easily understand what happens during the cursor times.

  15. Include Calculated Data in OCS Data Views

As a data scientist, I often want to include calculated features in addition to the stream property data. Examples include min, max, average, etc. calculated at the same frequency as the interpolated stream property values.

Data views now allows you to add OCS summaries into your dataset.

Summaries will let you easily enhance your data sets beyond just field values – there are 12 summary types ready to choose from including min, max, mean, count, standard deviation, and more! See the full list in our docs here: https://ocs-docs.osisoft.com/Content_Portal/Documentation/SequentialDataStore/Reading_Data_API.html#get-summaries

To add a summary to your data view, click the “+Add” button, and then use the form filters to find the field and summary types that you want to include. Select one or multiple to add them into your data view as new columns.

  16. PI to OCS browser dependency in PI to OCS Agent install

There seems to be a dependency on IE, when installing the PI to OCS agent. This wasn't there in earlier versions. I kept getting Flash error during DUO authentication. I had FF and Chrome installed, and Flash was disabled. I ended up having to install IE, then disable Flash in IE, before I could get past the DUO error

PI to OCS now uses the System Browser during installation. The install kit will now use the default system browser instead of the older embedded browser for user authentication to avoid known embedded browser issues.

This functionality was released in version 1.4.84.0 on August 12, 2020. Please log into OCS and download and install this latest version of PI to OCS to enable these features.

With the release of two new features in OSIsoft Cloud Services, data views and metadata rules, users now have powerful and flexible tools available to apply automated context to their data streams, and to shape those streams into preconfigured tabular datasets that can be queried through the OCS REST API. This provides a familiar workflow for data scientists to access operational data and apply it to machine learning models and other advanced analytics.

OSIsoft will continue to enhance these capabilities and others across our technology stack to support users’ data science initiatives. Provide feedback on use cases and stay informed of the next set of features in development through Uservoice updates.

  20. Capture data from remote customer sites that don’t have a PI System

As a company that provides services for remote assets at our customers sites, we need to collect data from our customer sites without having to deploy a full PI System SO THAT we can start providing our service weeks to months faster and save on deployment and infrastructure costs.

Ideally, we could deploy some PI Connectors to remote sites and store the data in a Cloud Data Store.

Edge Data Store (EDS) was designed to meet IoT/edge deployments where a PI System is not a good fit due to environment, location, operating system, network and/or management concerns. EDS provides standard data collection via Modbus TCP and OPC UA, custom data collection via an OSIsoft Message Format (OMF) REST endpoint, persistent data storage, an API for local data access and custom application development, an API for configuration and management at scale, and data transfer to PI Servers and OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS) using OMF. EDS has a small installed footprint and runs on lightweight Linux or Windows based devices and is a great fit for data collection and local data access for remote assets, especially when network bandwidth is constrained or network availability is not guaranteed. Link to the EDS user guide:
    https://osisoft.github.io/Edge-Data-Store-Docs/V1/

In addition to EDS, OSIsoft has released a…
