For the spans implementation, let’s consider implications on PI, OCS and EDS. E.g. how does the data source represent spans and/or how does the OMF application recognize these spans? Who / what uses the span data? How does the thing using the span data represent a span and associated data? Do we have scenarios with non-time based spans for OCS and EDS?

Drilling (WITSML) uses depth as a non time-based index. There may be a use case for spans in this context.

this is required for pharma and discreet manufacturing data. it would be nice if this feature allows users to relate instances. for example, pharma customers want to relate event frames from one data source any number of other ones (a Product Manufacturing Order deployment to Batch Execution system Phase to A BacNet dataset for the room conditions when the execution took place)

In the context of the Academic Community Service, event frames would allow students to "tag" the start/stop of their experiment and then get back to their data in a easy way.
