We have been gathering use cases and information about OPC UA Server functionality as it pertains to OSIsoft products.
There are a number of different requirements to consider, and as such we’re changing the status back to “UNDER REVIEW / RESEARCHING” to more accurately reflect the current status of the work.
At this time, we are not committing to bringing this capability to market.
We will update this thread if the status changes.
Any update on the subject?
Please you have to include security. To have the ability to set access rights to OPC clients, not everyone should be able just to use a client an access the OPC.
Any update on the subject? It is 2018!!!
Maybe you are not aware but there are already RTU's and PLC's having OPC UA for more than a year/two. SCADA systems like the ones from Siemens i think even Rockwell now supports OPC UA how long now... others too!
It is an very important subject to us and our industry and we would like to know if this is planned and when. Buy not having the capability to send OPC UA , it creates and impact on the complete chain of applications and that is not small! I think just the security impact should be enough from your end to develop the same.
YES we need it, in fact even our IT security department is asking for it as already.
We have real-time systems that already have the same protocol.
It is more secure
It saves a lot of issues and complications with DCOM
It is becoming a standard in the industry due to the improvements over the old DA/HDA.
We do distribute data from PI to other internal projects via OPC, and current OPC server is not quite up for the task in terms of security
We could have used it a year a go, we will require it soon if not we will be forced to look for other solutions.
“Finding changes in the PI System” is still being evaluated.
Correction: Previously this was shown as “planned” and part of Stream Updates. Stream Updates will allow you to retrieve data updates instead of having to retrieve the entire stream.
The upcoming PI Web API 2018 SP1 release will tell the caller if the stream has changed (e.g., the PI Point data reference was changed to a different PI Point), so that the caller can re-subscribe to the correct stream. It will not provide a mechanism to know what specifically those changes are on the stream, nor on the entire PI System.

We have a new SQL query processing engine under construction. We call it the Real-Time Query Processing Engine, or RTQP Engine. We are targeting improved performance and scalability but we are also improving some of the table designs to make common queries a bit easier. We have talked to many customers about their use cases. It turns out that direct access to PI Data Archive tags is still very important. We also found several hybrid use cases such a summarizing values from a PI tag over the period of an Event Frame, and Kenneth Barber’s excellent example of aligning AF Attributes with PI Point attributes. So, we will be adding direct access to PI tags and data but not in the first release.
This item is under review. Currently considering the following behavior for attributes links:
Error returned: “Unsupported data type: ‘OSIsoft.AF.Asset.AFAttribute’.”
Similar error for AFElement.
Change under consideration:
Value link for Attributes of value type “Attribute” returns the referenced attribute’s GET response (“/attributes/[webid]”)
Value link for Attributes of value type “Element” returns the referenced element’s GET response (“/elements/[webid]”)

Web ID 2.0 should allow you to compute the WebID of a resource without needing to make a call to PI Web API. With that computed WebID, you can make the single call to PI Web API to delete the resource.
Does this solution meet your needs? Have I understood it correctly?

We are planning to add several functions that are equivalent to T-SQL functions. This will make it easier for the PI SQL products to integrate with the Linked Server in Microsoft SQL Server.
How would you like to track this information? For example, is it sufficient to be a message in a log file, a performance counter? Do you want to maintain the history of all the changes you want on this flag? This will help us understand how to implement it.

We are currently researching this item and evaluating it for a future release.
There has to be another way of exporting the display as a file ( modify the configuration within the file) then importing the same into the other server. This is not a hard thing to do, we must have a feature like that. The moment the Display Utility is virtually useless. It can be a very simple solution.
To clarify the previous status, programmatic access to the functionality provided by DLResize and DLSelect from pidialogs.xla is available using ResizeRange and SelectRange beginning in PI DataLink 2014. For details, please see KB01035:
However, programmatic access to the automatic update settings or button has not been implemented.
The idea still exists on our product backlog, but there are no plans in place to develop and release this functionality at this time.
