meierke1 references this being the same request as another. The other one reads differently to me. The other one was also completed in Server 2018. I see nothing in the release notes concerning the ability to schedule analysis weekly or monthly . . . so it does not appear completed yet.

We have not moved to Server 2018 quite yet . . . so someone can correct me if i'm wrong about whats in the release notes.

'weekly' would be another somewhat common period for KPI type analyses in AF

The combination of circular references and Automatic recalculation is hugely problematic. There are a number of ways to inadvertently create a circular reference and the methods for identifying them, especially if they are not your own analyses, can be incredibly tedious.

Circular References cause Automatic Recalculation to endlessly loop through recalculations. There is no proactive way to identify this as a problem. It eventually can be noticed by manual backfills being in the queue for longer than normal . . . or by an eagle-eyed user noticing that certain analyses continuously flip into the 'backfilling' status.

Correction to earlier comment by Matt Ziegler: This idea was not fulfilled in PI Integrator for Business Analytics 2018 release. This idea is currently not planned for a future release. If you have a use case and desired behavior for a particular writer and want to discuss further, please comment below or email me. Thank you!

    Matt Voll commented  ·

i'm unsure what 'use case' you are looking for beyond the initial idea. The scenario in the idea is still a valid concern.

If a PIIntegrator View to a non-PI View target (like a generic SQL database) is deleted, the corresponding Database Table remains in the SQL Database . . . which is thus confusing for users accessing the views via a SQL connection (like PowerBI).

The entire concept of using Integrator adds a lot of moving parts between data in PI to data accessible to something like PowerBI . . . without then adding additional items like a dedicated PI ODBC driver and configuring a new Data Source on the users computer to access the PI Views . . . thus the reasoning with using a generic SQL target.

Thanks for checking. I am upgrading from 2016 to 2018 this week sometime.

While I think the issues presented by old tables not being deleted when the View is deleted is drastically reduced by the ability to modify existing views . . . this still presents a long term manageability concern.

I don't see any mention of this in 2016R2SP1 release notes nor in the 2018 release notes. Has it been completed?

OSIsoft is committed to providing customers with a more manageable system. We are working hard to solve the problems of deployment, security, and standardized health messaging within our products.

PI System Health and PI System Directory were early steps in the manageability story, and we learned a lot thanks to significant customer testing and feedback. We also discovered that there is much more to making a truly manageable system through these engagements.  In order to pursue these larger needs surrounding manageability, we will not be releasing PI System Health, and we are putting PI System Directory on maintenance so that our engineering resources can be allocated toward these bigger efforts. As such, there are no additional enhancements for PI System Directory planned at this time.

As a result, the status of this suggestion will be changed back to “No status” for the time being. Future status updates will be communicated here.

This item is under technical review. Currently, support for collecting Snapshot data can be achieved via PI to PI interface and should be considered for achieving this specific functionality.
