    I would recommend using RDBMS PI interface to move the data from the external ODBC data source into PI, along with your PI data, you can now visualize both sets of data on a PI Vision display.
     
    The PI Interface for Relational Databases enables you to transfer data between the PI System and any relational database management system (RDBMS) that supports Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers.

    Hi are you trying to achieve something of the following shown in the video link?
    OSIsoft: Swap Related Assets in PI Coresight 2016 Displays [v3.0.0.4] - YouTube
    if yes, in order to do that, you will need to build the assets based of the same element template, in that case, you will be able to switch the asset context based of 1 display.
