The highest priority I see is a Master library for an enterprise. The value is to propagate the latest analytics across sites faster. This means a one-way sync of library templates, tables, and enum sets from master server to slave servers. The master always wins. Attr/Tag mappings are preserved when the master template is edited. The UOM database can be sync'd across all AF servers, again master wins, one-way. Slaves could subscribe themselves or a master could subscribe a slave.

i have this need now in o&g where assets are decentralized but must be administered remotely from a central library. Primary focus for us is element and event frame templates.as these are enhanced centrally, all subscribing AF libraries underneath are synchronized. this seems to be a recurring enterprise feature we will see much more and more.

we saw the need for this recently when navigating a large tree of electric motor assets from collections with navigation links. We needed the ability to go back in reverse order.

Agree. I would add that when you delete pi point attributes, can the user be given the choice of deleting the underlying pi point, turning its scan off or leaving the pi point as-is [Default]. Default behavior could be a global setting configurable by the admin user. Without this housekeeping lots of stale, duplicate or just unnecessary tags accumulate in the data archive server. This is a feature that would help customers be AF attribute-centered and not tag centered.

Pharma customer Novaris/Seqirus asked for cisco switch monitoring via snmp. Trap messages v3 are a part of this request.

I totally agree this is a big need. If they have global context, AF libraries become much more valuable. Standardizing assets across sites is a common ask from enterprise leaders. Many of our customers now have global sites: decentralized assets that require centralized admin. Happy to help describe and foster this growth.

I agree here with the need for centralized AF admin across a fleet of AF servers. We have seen this need a lot in Upstream o&g where broadly decentralized (very remote) assets require a centralized admin. A weak link in this enterprise architecture can be poor reliability of the network between corporate PI and site PI. Customers are often asking to have as much analytics as possible at the the lowest layer (near the edge). distribute analytics into smarter layers this way. increase speed of delivery to site users. egress less from site, only the important stuff. all this points to needing centralized AF library admin. A global AF library is essential to solve enterprise wide problems. Totally agree!

This is needed today to protect the intellectual property of what is inside in the analytic. This would be useful for "community" partners (equipment suppliers, engr service providers, consultants, etc..) to be able to distribute their expertise to PI System owners in a PI System analytic template. Users need see only inputs, outputs. Their logic is proprietary. An example case would be vibration monitoring service providers triggering EFs at plant site for site operators to qualify the incident and interact with the community partner. Community PI AF authors would greatly enhance existing pi system investments and be a welcome boost to site activity, strengthening data leaving the site to cloud based sharing and research.

Customers doing pattern recognition and prognostics often need multivariable, nonlinear functions to model the physical behavior they see. Extensible analytics keep projects rooted in PI AF and provide feedback to us as to what functions need to be included in our product.

this may be better solved on the backend as tag property similar to STEP. A property that disables extending the most recent value to present. i ran into this in analytics using FindEq(). customer had LIMS sample data. Unlike sensor data, sample data by nature applies to the orig timestamp only. Customer needed to query backwards in time to find a particular sample timestamp. If in a polling schedule FindEq() returned current time rather than the most recent sample time.

i could dream of the option to add translation layers per language and then allow users to toggle language in the client tools. could we one-shot a language translation and then allow user edits to polish the attrib names/descr. seems possible, is it manageable?

we are using FFT currently in analyzing PID controller strain. FFT has broad application. We have built a custom symbol in PI vision for FFT analysis. Works well as an ad hoc data science tool and links nicely to event frames in pi vision.

    Steve Edwards commented  ·

This is needed in a range of cases. One broad example is machine vibration data from accelerometers for condition based maintenance.

I agree that FFT would be valuable in AF functions. If it's any consolation you can currently build your own FFT symbol in PI vision to get the ball rolling as an ad hoc user activity. The event frames UI in PI Vision can help you manage these ad hoc data sets to be more structured. Hope this helps.
