We created a view in SQL server for this using the LogEntries table. It works well and gives us the information we need but it's something we need to be cautious on whenever a software update is released. Would certainly prefer to have it as part of the product.

We had a similar challenge recently... Initially I was going with one view for each attribute but I was able to tidy it up using an AF template to add a child element for each attribute to include in the view, and then building one view that includes all instances of that template. Your proposal would certainly be cleaner though so it has my vote!

We have started development on Community Management features and Stream data sharing in OSIsoft Cloud Services (OCS) to enable sharing of operational data across tenants.

As part of the Community creation workflow, we are working on a way that Communities are formed without exposing other customer accounts/tenants in the process.

Additionally, Namespaces can now be used to segregate customer data (if you’re providing a service to those customers), or the data can be stored in their own OCS tenant/account and then shared via Community data sharing functionality (when it becomes available).

How would you like to track this information? For example, is it sufficient to be a message in a log file, a performance counter? Do you want to maintain the history of all the changes you want on this flag? This will help us understand how to implement it.

In response to David Hearn, "Changes to auditing in the AF Server are..."
We are more concerned with changes in the PI Data Archive at this time. We set the 'EnableAudit' tuning parameter to -1 on all our systems which means all changes made by administrators are logged.
Currently an admin could change this setting to 0 which would disable auditing and then freely change other settings in the system without maintaining a history.

Yes maintaining a history of all changes to this flag is critical. Without this there is potential that someone could turn off auditing, make changes to the system without generating any records and enable auditing again. A message in a log file is acceptable so long as it can be easily found during audit trail review.
The first step of our typical audit review process is to confirm that auditing is enabled and has not been turned off since the time of last audit.
